In her inestimable way of connecting the reader to the character, Eugenia Price has made me a happy reader again. I thought I had read all of her novels, but was SO pleased to find this Saint Simons Trilogy on . A completely enjoyable read, and the others will be too !!
This was my first encounter with the author and it was memorable. I love history and she weaves a story with the local history of St Simons Island to perfection. I had just visited this area when I found these books - a trilogy - so I was already familiar with the characters of the book. I could pictures all her descriptions of the island as a remote area that encompassed the good and bad of the early south. Once you have read the first of the trilogy, you will have to read the other two. Keep the tissue box handy.
Thanks to the bookseller, Words-of-the-Wise; quick delivery and book was in condition as described. This is a great story about James Gould and his dream of building the lighthouse on St. Simons Island. He didn't think his dream would ever come true and all but gave up on it, but with hard work and support from his wife, he makes a go of it and, well, get the book and find out for yourself... a truly great book!
I got this book because we had spent time on St. Simons, last year and it was a recommended book. It was a slow start but once you get though the first few chapters a good book. It's how what pride in oneself can do to a person, but also is a good account of the history of the island at that time. I look forward to reading the rest of the trilogy.
What a great read . Having been to St.Simons Island made this story extra special. Everyone should read this book, and I plan to read the next two books. She explains the island as is and I felt like I was walking along looking at the trees with moss hanging fighting off the insects . It has so much history it is breathtaking.
This is the second time I have read this trilogy and loved it all over again. It initiated a lovely trip to St. Simons Island to see their graves and learn some more about the time of the contained in the novels. It also is a very clean novel and doesn't need profanity to emphasize emotions. The Christian attitude pervades the trilogy but does not overwhelm the reader. Loved them!
I had heard about Eugenia Price and read a couple of her books. Then I read about this series and was thrilled as I read each book in
the series. Ms. Price keeps your attention and you just do not want to put the books down. The characters are based on people who
lived in that time period and in the area. The historical parts made me want to go to St. Simons Island, which my husband and I did.
Her writing was so accurate, you felt like you had already been there when you arrived. I think I have most of the books Ms. Price has
written. The reason I ordered this book from is because when I went to get my copy it was missing, suppose I had loaned it
and it had never been returned. So I was very pleased that you had copies of "Lighthouse" Thank you. Sara Burk
